Top tips for ‘Practically painless’ waxing with Perron Rigot
30 August 2011
Perron Rigot ambassador and salon owner, Andy Rouillard, shares some advice for a little less ‘ouch’ and a little more ‘oooh’ when waxing.
1. Explain yourself – if this is your client’s first appointment, take time to explain the waxing procedure, demonstrate the products you will be using and answer any questions they may have before starting. Once on the couch, explain what you are doing each and every step of the way. This will go a long way towards reducing any anxiety your customer may have about their treatment and helps to build a solid, trusting relationship for the future.
2. Trim – use electric clippers or nail scissors to trim long hair before starting. This makes it easier to see the direction of growth and prevents longer hairs from becoming tangled or matted in the wax.
3. Oil – instead of powder, apply a few drops of Perron Rigot’s Jasmine Oil to the body before waxing. This creates a lipid barrier between the skin and wax that makes removal a lot easier for you and the whole experience less painful for your client. Oil can be used under both soft (strip) and hard (non-strip) waxes, anywhere on the face and body.
4. Be a ‘bossy’ therapist – don’t be afraid to move your client into a position that makes your job easier and more comfortable, and get your client to help with stretching the skin if necessary. If it’s easier for you, it’s going to be easier and more comfortable for your client.
5. Upgrade your wax – a good quality strip wax with a low melting point and exceptional fluidity should be a staple of every salon. In addition, the new generation of non-strip ‘hard’ waxes are a good choice for tough, stubborn hair and sensitive areas such as the face, underarms and bikini line. Perron Rigot’s peelable waxes share all of the benefits of traditional hot wax, but are lower in temperature, easier to apply and remain flexible as they cool. They work by ‘shrink wrapping’ individual hairs as they dry, meaning that even very short or strongly rooted hairs can be removed effectively without the wax sticking to the skin. This makes them much more comfortable for the client and many therapists consider them a ‘must have’ for quick and easy intimate waxing.
6. Apply pressure – press or tap the skin immediately after removing the wax strip. This stimulates the nerve endings and takes away the sting.
7. Soothe and protect – finish your hair removal service with a mini-massage using a soothing afterwax lotion, such as Perron Rigot’s Refreshing Gel or Moisturising Milk, to calm and nourish the skin. It’s a nice touch that the client will remember and she (or he) will feel even better about their treatment, resulting in happy customers and repeat business.
8. Education, education, education – a well-trained beauty practitioner can adapt their technique in the most appropriate way for all skin and hair types. For salons and customers alike, training provides the assurance of a better service, increased client comfort and the best possible results. Perron Rigot offers a variety of advanced waxing workshops to help drive your business forward, including accredited training in male and female intimate waxing, brow design and speed waxing.
